On June 23, 2016, the first Joint Working Group Meeting on Poverty Reduction for Lancang-Mekong Cooperation was held in Guilin, Guangxi, marking the official establishment of the Joint Working Group.

On July 26, 2017, the second meeting of the Joint Working Group on Poverty Reduction was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
